Give when it matters! Helping children and adolescents leads to a lifetime of benefits. Supporting programs that help children before mental illnesses start helps to prevent lost time in education, social relationships, and job opportunities. HeartMind International provides services to children and adolescents through school and community programs. Our programs include school-based counseling, suicide prevention programs, and healthy lifestyle education. We are continuing our weekly school-based mental health counseling program in Jumla, Nepal. We are also continuing our post-earthquake programs in Sankhu, Nepal, where 7-9th graders receive 8 sessions on developing healthy emotions as a way to prevent suicide and promote mental health. These early interventions help to catch signs and symptoms of mental health problems early and get youth into treatment. Our mental health promotion programs help all youth develop healthy lifestyles into adulthood.

Give where it matters! Child and adolescent mental health services are not available for the majority of Nepali families. In rural areas, experts in child and adolescent mental health are nearly unheard of. HeartMind International is dedicated to making sure that services for youth are available in even remote regions of the country. We work in Jumla, Nepal, a midwestern region near the Himalayas. In Jumla, suicide is a major public health problem. In Jumla, 85% of all suicides among women occur before the age of 25 years old. Therefore, programs to promote the mental health and to prevent suicide among girls are absolutely vital. Through our school-based programs and community counseling programs we are working for every at risk young person to have access to evidence-based programs to improve mental health and promote healthy lifestyles. Help us fight to end suicide in Jumla and other regions of Nepal.
